About Overbrook Bible Church

Overbrook Bible Church is a non-denominational, Bible-believing church serving the body of Christ and the surrounding community in Overbrook, Kansas, about 20 miles south of Topeka in Osage County. We are a member church of the IFCA International.

As a church we are committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and we base our teaching on the written Word of God. We seek to guide people to a saving knowledge of the Lord, encourage the children of God, and grow our relationship with God.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed (2 Tim. 3:16–17; 2 Pet. 1:20–21Mat. 5:18John 16:12–13).

God

We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, co-eternal and co-equal and having the same attributes and perfections (Deut. 6:42 Cor. 13:14).

Jesus Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men (John 1:1–214Luke 1:34–35).

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice, and we are justified by His physical resurrection from the dead (Rom. 3:24–251 Peter 2:24Eph. 1:71 Peter 1:3–5).

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where He is our High Priest, Intercessor, and Advocate (Acts 1:9–10Heb. 9:247:25Rom. 8:341 John 2:1–2).

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and that He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption (John 16:8–112 Cor. 3:61 Cor. 12:12–14Rom. 8:9Eph. 1:13–14).

We believe that the Spirit is sovereign in bestowing His gifts; and that the gifts of evangelists, pastors, and teachers are sufficient for the perfecting of the saints today; and that speaking in tongues and the working of sign miracles gradually ceased as the New Testament Scriptures were completed and their authority became established (1 Cor. 12:4–1113:82 Cor. 12:12Eph. 4:7–12).

Man

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God but that in Adam’s sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; and that man is, of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition (Gen. 1:26–27Rom. 3:22–235:12Eph. 2:1–312).

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gift of God received by grace and through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins (Eph. 2:8–10John 1:121 Peter 1:18–19). Because salvation is the free gift of God, there is nothing man can do to earn or deserve it (Eph. 1:7).

We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever (John 6:37–4010:27–30Rom. 8:138–391 Cor. 1:4–81 Peter 1:5).

The Church

We believe that the Universal Church, which is the Body of Christ, is comprised of all born-again persons of this present age (Eph. 1:22–235:25–271 Cor. 12:12–14; 2 Cor. 11:2).

We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:2720:1728–321 Tim. 3:1–13Titus 1:5–11).

We believe in the autonomy of the local church, free of any external authority or control (Acts 13:1415:19–3120:28Romans 16:11 Cor. 3:9165:4–7131 Peter 5:1–4).

We recognize the ordinances of water baptism (immersion) and the Lord’s supper as a scriptural means of testimony for the church (Mat. 28:19–20Acts 2:41–4218:819:2–51 Cor. 11:23–26).

Satan

We believe that Satan is a personal being, the author of sin and the cause of the fall; and that he shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire (Job 1:6-1; Isa. 14:12–11Mat. 4:2–1125:41Rev. 20:10).

Future Things

We believe in the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His redeemed in the rapture; and in His subsequent return to earth with His saints to establish His Millennial Kingdom (1 Thes. 4:13–18Zech. 14:4–11Rev. 19:11–1620:1–61 Thes. 1:105:9Rev. 3:10).

We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment (Mat. 25:46John 5:28–2911:25-26Rev. 20:5–612–13).

We believe that the souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord, where in conscious bliss they await the first resurrection, when spirit, soul and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord (Luke 23:43Rev. 20:4–62 Cor. 5:8Phil. 1:233:211 Thes. 4:6–11).     .

We believe the souls of unbelievers remain, after death, in conscious misery until the second resurrection, when with soul and body reunited they shall appear at the Great White Throne Judgment and shall be cast into the lake of fire to suffer everlasting, conscious punishment (Luke 16:19–26Mat. 25:41–462 Thes. 1:1–9Jude 1:6–7Mark 9:43–48Rev. 20:11–15).
